This work brings together vintage imagery, hand-cut collage, and analogue text to explore the moment when care turns inward. The phrase “you can heal your own heart” is both an assertion and an invitation—offering tenderness without rescue, reassurance without dependence.
At the centre of the composition, the heart is joined at the seams with gold metallic elements, referencing the Japanese practice of kintsugi, in which broken pottery is repaired with gold. Here, the fractures are not concealed but honoured—suggesting that damage, when tended to with care, becomes a source of strength and beauty rather than something to be hidden.
Surrounding imagery of growth, flight, and renewal gathers around the heart, reinforcing healing as an active, self-directed process rather than something bestowed or granted. Created through slow, tactile processes—cutting, layering, and typewriting—the work affirms emotional autonomy and the quiet resilience that comes from self-belief.
